We're going to win tomorrow

Well, that's what the pundits and bookies reckon so who am I to argue? RTE, Setanta (can't find the link but, trust me, they did back us) and the Irish Times (that pesky premium content again) all go for a Mayo win, as does Paddy Power, quoting a Mayo victory at a miserly 8/11. According to the Indo, the Galway supporters appear to be taking the hint - only five tickets for the game were sold at the Pearse Stadium box office on Thursday evening.

For what it's worth, I think we will win tomorrow but it could be another close one. We’re meeting each other having both won five games on the bounce so one of those unbeaten runs will fall tomorrow afternoon. I think we’ve more purpose about us and the hard matches we’ve had over the past few weeks should stand to us, compared to the mediocre opposition that Galway have faced over the same period. That said, nothing would please the Galway lads more than to knock us down a peg or two and, on their day, they’re well capable of doing this. In this respect, I’m still worried about our backline. Tomorrow will be a big test for them – I hope they’re up to it.

In other news, Mayofans.com reports that our U21 All-Ireland opponents next weekend will, in fact, be the Leinster rather than the Munster champions. Both the GAA’s own website and that of the tournament sponsors Cadbury had us down to play the Munster champions (Cork) but they’ve now apparently realised the error of their ways. The Leinster final – between neighbours Laois and Offaly - takes place this evening (6.30pm throw-in) and Mayo will, I reckon, be hotly fancied to beat whoever emerges victorious from that tussle.
